Today was a short day going to some of the most beautiful lakes on the trail!
Early in the day we climbed our third pass, Island pass. It was very easy compared to Donahue but still some snow. Stopped at Thousand Island Lake for lunch. While probably not 1000 islands there, there were still a rather large quantity. One of the finest lakes in the Sierras!
We met a nice wilderness man with his dog. He used to work with search and rescue for many years. I must say I really appreciate those who have helped make the trail what it is. It must have taken and still takes a lot of hard work! The man warned of a bridge out at Minaret Falls. We went that way anyway. until detouring by Shadow Lake.
We camped by Garnet Lake after losing the trail on the way down. We almost ended up walking all the way around the other side of the lake. Josh postholed on a snow field near the edge of the lake but it was a great joy that neither one of us slid into the water!
Surprisingly, we still haven't seen any bears, just marmots and wilderness chipmunks.
