Crater Lake National Park Day Hikes

9/1/19

This was my first time going to Crater Lake. I was able to go with my brother who was visiting for the weekend. We did several day hikes while driving around the lake.

After reaching the national park we drove counter clockwise around the lake and stopped at several viewpoints.

The first hike that we did was Mount Scott, the highest point in Crater Lake National Park at 8934 feet. The trail is 4.2 miles one way.

The trail is on the right and then goes up the ridge.

As we climbed  we could start to see Crater Lake down below.

The trail is quite popular and in good condition.

Visibility was fairly good, considering the many forest fires.

The view of Crater Lake improved as we made it up on the ridge.

At the top, there is a fire lookout tower.

The view from the top was great!

We finished the hike and continued driving around the lake. We stopped at some of the roadside viewpoints.

The next trail we decided to do was the Cleetwood Cove Trail, the only trail that goes down to the lake from the rim. This trail is 2.1 miles roundtrip.

This is also a very popular trail.

There are boat tours that leave from here to go to Wizard Island, but we didn't have time.

There were many people near the water.

We began the climb back up.

The next hike we did was the Watchman, 1.6 miles roundtrip. There were many cars parked at the parking area.

There was a great view of Wizard Island.

Some of the cliffs on the rim are very dramatic.

The next hike I did was Garfield Peak, 3.4 mile roundtrip.

I could see across to Mount Scott.

It was a great day at Crater Lake! I hope to return in the future and complete more or the spectacular trails in the area.
