Vernal Fall |
The day had begun as we woke from our slumbers at Union station. At 1:45 am bus the bus left Bakersfield heading for Merced. Upon arrival and after a thirty minute wait, we were on the train to Merced. One plus hour wait in Merced for bus to Yosemite! The bus was officially an Amtrak but actually a Yarts. It was a beautiful ride. Upon arrival, we went directly to the wilderness center and got our permits. Happy Isles was full for daily permits so we switched our Mono Meadow permit to a Glacer Point and bought the Glacier Point tickets!
The reason for our switch was that we were informed that the Glacier Point bus wouldn't stop at Mono Meadow to drop off hikers. However, this wasn't the case. The view from Glacier Point is worth it. We also inquired about Half Dome permits, but were denied due to our starting location.
After finding our permits, we found the Backpackers camp and set-up the tent. The campground is a nice place by the North Pines campground. Then we went shopping and bought some fuel and ate some garden burgers (we're vegetarian) and sweet potato fries after eating a crunch bar ice cream.
Next it was time to explore, so we went back to camp and got headlamps and cameras and went to the top of Vernal Fall. Sadly, three people died there the day before, but we were safe. We came back and got ready for sleep. There were already some mosquitoes!
